This is an easy-moderate 5.8-mile gem of a hike with several short steep hills. Prepare for some serious nature including enough birds to qualify as a sanctuary. I spied the most beautiful Blue Heron in flight I have ever seen. I was above this beauty looking down as it glided out of the creek, unbelievable. Blue Jays, Woodpeckers and grouse are everywhere. This area was populated with California Native Americans who lived by Secret and Miners Ravine Creek for centuries. http://www.rocklinhistory.org/written_history/written_roy-1974.asp

This trail listing was recorded in 2011 and, unfortunately since then, the homeless have taken over much of this backcountry area. I hiked this last month (Nov 2019) and starting around mile 1, single tents and small homeless structures started appearing. The further I went, more tents and small tent cities were very evident. At one point, the human waste & trash simply overwhelmed me and I wanted off the trail.
At this time, I strongly advise caution on this hike and do not hike it alone!
