Description de l'itinéraire

This has got to be a contender for the best hike in England. It packs such incredible sights into a fairly short and easy walk. The paths are all good and it's easy to navigate at any time of year.

Car park at the start was £5 for the day. You can pay cash or card. You might get lucky and find some on-street parking on a non-busy day.

Your first destination is Malham Cove - an awe-inspiring 70 metre high limestone cliff face. It's a hotspot for some of Britain's best rock climbers, and includes the hardest route in the whole of the UK ("Rainman" - graded 9B). You'll ascend the hardest part of the walk - a set of around 400 steps to the left of the cliff-face.

From there, you'll continue onwards - either following the easy path or navigating over the rocks at the top of Malham Cove (it can get very windy at the top so be careful!). The top of Malham Cove could be a great place to stop and have lunch while admiring the views.

The walk continues off the the right-hand side of Malham Cove and follows some nice paths across fields and then crossing a ladder stile to a road. You quickly exit the road on the other side to continue on field paths. You'll soon reach a refreshments van at the start of the trail to Gordale Scar where you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat.

From here you will start the short there-and-back route to Gordale Scar. It's a nice flat path so it's really worth adding this onto the journey. Gordale Scar is an incredible gorge with a double waterfall at the end.

After returning back to the road from Gordale Scar, you'll exit the road to the left for a short trail down to Janet's Foss - another beautiful waterfall with a pool at the bottom (where you can go for a swim if you're feeling brave!). Follow the waterway from the bottom of Janet's Foss, along the river through a wooded area. This is the final stretch of the walk. You'll pass some fields with sheep in them before getting back to Malham.

There are toilets (with baby changing) at the information centre, as well as a shop and picnic area.

Walk did not deliver the gorgeous blue skies as advertised in the photos for this walk.
