Las Trampas is part of the East Bay Regional Parks. This is a 5000 acre wilderness on the edge of a major metropolitan way. This hike provides great views of Mount Diablo to the east and San Francisco, SF Bay, and the Peninsula to the west. The ridge is defined by a series of sandstones cutting a profile along the top ridge. The hike from the trailhead starts off steep, before cutting into water district land where it is relatively flat. A permit is required for crossing onto the East Bay Municipal Utility District land (EBMUD). You can obtain the permit online.
